I'll be in Rabat for 7 weeks, with a group of University students. I expect us all to be deeply immersed in local culture (home stays, classes with locals etc.). Our educational philosophy is that learning happens best when students circulate between the comfortable known and the uncomfortable unknown. As a retreat from the 'unknown', I'd like our group to celebrate U.S. Independence day in some way while we are there. I'm looking for suggestions on ways to do this. (Obviously we're not going to light fireworks and walk the streets singing 'God Bless America' - so I'm looking for ways to do this un-offensively.)

The US embassy will be throwing a 4th of July party, and you should be able to swing invitations as long as you're a decent schmoozer and your group is all (or almost all) US citizens. There'll be familiar food and music and everyone will speak English and after three hours you'll be racing for the door.
