amazon: jungle boots or trek shoes?

Hi Folks - im hoping to trek into various parts of central american and amazon jungle over next few months .. can anyone who's done so suggest whether i actually need jungle boots or would synthetic mesh trek shoes/trail shoes be ok .. I dont mind my feet being wet all the time and i want to keep weight down .. but also i dont want to have totally unsuitable footwear. Advice anyone? Thanks

I haven't done the Amazon Jungle myself so I'll ask around the friends that did and get back to you on this.

In the meantime I've seen the recommendation of a lodge in Amazon jungle to bring good trekking shoes, so they didn't ask for jungle boots for the treks that they conduct.

Sorry it took so long definitely trek shoes.

Everyone I spook with said they are much better. With the Jungle boots if the water have entered they stay in and that can be very unpleasant.

They are heavy and expensive and most of the time you won't need them. The only question is the season of your trekking if it is really wet then you might reconsider.
