Hi!

Costs of living: more expensive than centre europe (ca 150%)

getting around: greyhound and McCafferty busses (prepaid tickets for a certain amount of miles)

places not to miss: Fraser Island near Brisbane (make a 3day safari), Great Ocean Road (near Melbourne)

places to stay: in nearly every small village is a youth hostel, prices vary a lot, most times no reservation is necessary

greetings

Oh, Aussies just bag on the pollies! Canberra is actually quite attractive, once you get used to the roundabouts. It's also proof that Australia has the neutron bomb and detonates it at weekends...lots of buildings, no

Winterpeg? Nah, Canberra can get a slight skiff of snow, but none of that howling crap that you get in Manitoba!

(regards from Nova Scotia, where we're bracing for 40 cm. more of that white dandruffy sh*t!!)

the surroundings are also quite attractive...I especially like the naming of the roadside stops after VC awardees - a particularly poignant, and fitting tribute to the diggers, from which we frostbacks could do well to learn.

Haha, I was referring to the apparent lack of people!

I'm British but found myself in Winterpeg last month. Very strange, lots of buildings and roads, and no people. The exact opposite of what we've got here in the UK! I'm going to Australia in March for a year, will have to visit Canberra to compare!

Mate, I'm an Australian, living in Australia. So I can say what I want about my own country. If i wish to compare Oz towns to US ones in an attempt to enlighten those who are not as well informed about Oz as they are about places within the States, I shall do so.
