I'm travelling around the east coast of Australia (just arrived at
Rainbow beach, north of Noosa) and know that your national day is just around the corner (monday the 26th).

I'm wondering if it's a day of big celebrations and lots to see for a traveller as myself from overseas, or just another day off work?

In case there's a lot to see, would I be better off going to Hervey bay (which will be my next stop), or not bother and just continue staying here at Rainbow beach (assuming I like it here).
In other words: will I be missing out on a lot by not going to a larger place such as Hervey bay on Australia day?

It's quite a big day in Sydney, particularly on and around the Harbour.
But obviously this is not suitable for your plans
