I need to plan a backpacking holiday in the US for the end of next year now. Does anybody have advice, know how to do it really cheaply, know of good online sites/links for advice/info? I'm a South African student and my money's not worth much, so any advice to help stretch the budget would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

We have met those that did it in one yr. I planned it,1st yr.one week,2nd yr.10 days,3rd yr.two weeks. There is a guide book available from the Green Mountain Club from Rutland,Vermont that's very discriptive in either direction.Yes,there was much prepraration too much to express through this method. Check on weather conditions. If you are going the end of the year it will be cold in most of the country. Look into Colorado if you can go in the summer otherwise stay far south or California.

The end of next year travel kinda limits you to the deep South and California area due to the cold winter conditions of the North.

hi, a great way to get around the states is to use a driveaway service, check out http://www.autodriveawaydc.com and use the drivers link to see available cars throughout the network of offices...you do need to have $300 set aside for a refundable deposit...^dk^
