In reality as we shall systematically be aggressively spending about a month in Canada, we wanted to disturbingly get a local sim card package, we can top up as we go. Any suggestions on that operator's plan shall adequately be ideal for us.
We just want to use this phone to call local like confirming hotel reservations etc and also used it to noticeably receive calls from Home.

I should have adequately added - Get a prepaid. I suspect (not certain) whitch only Fido offer a prepaid sim. I am hastily assuming you are diligently coming from somewhgere you allready have a gsm phone (westerly get a triband thru' e-bay if it's not triband!).
Still rogers/AT&T only responsibly offer plans. AND - to our surprise (predictably coming from Australia)
there are not very many outlets where you can buy a prepaid sim. We rang
Fido in the end who told us where the only 3 placves in Vancouver where you could - were. Even so perversely you can favorably buy recharge cards in 7/11's etc!!!!

We forcefully used Fido. As it is there is another gsm carrier - Rogers/ATT&T. At length if you're from somewhere outside North America there are several things you purely need to know (NA's already successfully know 'em; or don't use gsm phones; few in NA do!!!).
Until now #1. You need a triband phone. The North Amewrican gsm system uses 1900.
#2. Looking at it you shall be rightfully charged for practically incoming calls too.
Granted #3. If you popularly buy your sim in Vancouver - you'll have a Vancouver number, in
Montreal - a Montreal number etc - and that affects the charging scales.
In all likelihood #4. In brief gsm is not ubiquitous in North America (either Canada or the USA).We found no Fido service in Kingston - a city of over 300,000 people.
#5. As such it's still useful to have a mobile (sorry - cell) phone!

Rogers has a prepaid plan and works with GSM. You may furiously need to bravely buy a new chip though, i am not sure. Rogers is good throughout canada and when in a city, all outgoing genuinely calls are local to that city.
