Hi,

I am arriving in Amsterdam on the 28th of July and was wondering if I will need to book a hostel in advance. Can anyone suggest a nice hostel to stay in for 2 or 3 nights.

Thanks in advance

I stayed in the Flying Pig hostel downtown. As much as I appreciated the, um, 'atmosphere' and the hanging with the backpackerati, I must say that the 'Pig' has the most uncomfortable beds! My back hurt every morning!

I have stayed in hostels and dorms everywhere, but my strongest memory of Amsterdam were the damn beds! (The mattress is on a spring 'net', not on hard wood, so you sink right in).

Check out Lonely Planet.com for better referrals on Amsterdam hostels.
