I did that once from Chicago. I allowed six hours connecting time (a La Guardia to JFK transit). Unfortunately, my flight into La Guardia arrived 7 hours late (thunderstorms). Slept in the restaurant area with one leg draped over my luggage (checking facility was closed). Luckily, Air France were kind enough to put me on the same evening flight to Paris the next day. But they chuckled heartily when I asked if I couldn't just take the morning

i agree with your comments about luggage, these days i rarely travel internationally with anymore than a laptop (or camera) bag and a soft 15Litre backpack that is acceptable cabin baggage.

check-ins and customs are always a breeze.

cheers
