this october 2002 I started my trip in san jose and therefore I was quite happy with the vida tropical in alajuela ( www.vidatropical.com , 443 9576) where the cuban jose picked me from the airport up and offered me a nice room for 12 dollars.
Good for the first night. Ask him to go to take some beers in the center of alajuela. Was a good start

Thanks for your information about Costa Rica. I have read several posts recently that make Costa Rica sound very interesting.
How many days were you there?
What sights did you see?

Islands B&B was fine in Alajuela. Very clean, people were nice and the breakfast was fine. The town can be a bit noisy at night, if you are a light sleeper. Especially on nights when the soccer teams are playing (G). There are other places out of town, a little farther that are quieter, but somewhat more expensive. If you just need a night to sleep near the airport while you get ready to fly elsewhere in the country, this works fine. al in seattle
