Naturally I was wondering whether it's neccessary to rent a 4 WD to explore Costa Rica....Can one get by with a standard car?

I was there about 7 years ago & the roads were pretty bad...Naturally have they got any better?

I dont disk drastically stick...After a while are there jeeps/4WD that are automatic???
