A friend that lives in Rio De Janero has called and told me that the Dengue has caused sickness to 30,000 people and 40 have died.

It has nothing to do with thins such as eating, drinking or otherwise controllable sanitary condition as this disease similar to Malaria is carried by a fly.

If you are going to the area, it is important to take precautions against any insects bites, as no trip however amazing and how long you have waited for it is worth getting sick.

Here is the map of the active places of the dangue epidemic

I have recently looked at a world map of tourism to see the places that get most tourism to find the obvious most general tourism, e.g. not backpackers in particulart go to same places mostly Western Europe you can check it here.

Backpackers tends to go to the remote sometime dangerous places because they love to see the special and unique places in our universe and because they usually travel on a budget. Just as the weakening of the Dollar has forced some conventional tourism to go to Eastern European states as they are much cheaper the rule applies to backpackers on a regular basis and one tends to find them in cheap "uncivilized" places that are great to be in and explore.

As for the dengue just be careful!
