Hi everyone,

I am a writer, and have reached a creative roadblock. For the past few years, I thought about backpacking through Europe as a sort of escape, but (non-writing) work obligations have always gotten in the way. Seeing as how I have achieved very little creatively these past few months, and my job that pays the bills is no longer inspiring, I feel that the timing is right to finally take a few weeks and backpack. I am looking to leave in late December, or perhaps early January, and to hopefully spend 3-5 weeks backpacking.

Thing is, I'm not entirely sure where I should backpack. And this is where I'm looking for some guidance. I am looking for a creative journey, something to ignite a flame back into my creative spirit. And as I'm looking to leave in late January or early December, and this would be my first backpacking journey, what would everyone recommend be a good place to backpack? And I have maybe $2500 to $3000 CDN budget wise, so if anyone can suggest an itinerary that may fit into that budget, that would be great as well. But, regardless, I'll be grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks very much!

sbcallaghan I would advise you to go backpacking for a (very) short trip first - something like 2-3 days to see if you like it. To read and hear about it isn't the same as doing it and perhaps you won't like it. I think it's wrong to start out with 3 weeks for the first time.

I would disagree strongly with the comment above! I mean seriously you need some time away just go for it.I would strongly recommend Europe, maybe the UK- although the time of year your talking about will be wet and Cold, but still pretty especially Darbyshire or hartfordshire. I assume you have travelled the US? some time we miss whats right under our nose.. maybe a road trip or just go from state to state, just having time on your own to look and listen to your surroundings should get your creativity back on track! good luck !
