Hi all,

I need to get from Vienna, Austria to Chamonix, France in the cheapest possible way. Anything faster than by foot is acceptable...

I've heard that trains are quite expensive? How much? Is it cheaper to get shorter 'commuter' trains from town to town than to do the whole route? Is it cheaper to do it by bus? What is the advised route?

About hitchhiking: Any advises? Route? Tips? Where to stay?

Please share the experience of low-budget travel in Europe.
