3 of us have tickets into Athens on July 15 or so, and out of London in late October. We'll all have a 3 month unlimited Eurail pass, and around 4000 Euro.

The only certainty of what we want to do is Oktoberfest, so we'll need to be in Munich in late September.

Now...we really don't have much of an idea of where to go. Clearly, we're on a budget.

East: Whats worth seeing in Hungary, apart from Budapest? Is there much of a language barrier? What would be a good plan for a week in the Czech Republic? Cesky Krumlov and Prague, or check out some other stuff?

Hi,

frankly, you'll need to do more research on your own. Europe is quite a big place, and densely populated (many cities!) and asking 'what's worth seeing in Europe?' is a bit like asking 'what's worth seeing in Australia/Canada/USA'. And it won't get you a lot of sensible answers because people just can't write pages and pages.

All of them. Personally, I dislike Monaco - snobby, and not that nice to look at. In *my* opinion.

My favourite place in Europe is Italy - so if anything, I'd recommend that. Roma, Firenze, Cinque Terre, Sicily (great!!!)...

Paris: spend as much time there as you like, it won't bore you. Don't miss out on Sacre Coeur.

Cost cutting: I did this in 2000, so no idea if prices are still the same. But we found a very nice 3-star motel at the peripherie close to Porte d'Orleans, 10 mins walk to the metro and very reasonably priced at about 25 EUR per person/night.

There ought to be many hostels, but I've never checked on them.

All of them. And more. Valencia. Barcelona. Madrid. You name it.

As good as any, I suppose. Really depends what else you want to see, what you're after, landscape/nature/cities etc.

Maybe spend some days at Balaton lake? Quite pleasant.

Sounds ok. Karlovy Vary, maybe?
