hostel hopping, guide books, transportation and backpacking
whats the best guide book for hostel hopping? i understand there are different types of hostels is there one guide book that shows the most hostels or all hostels in europe? are all of these books large heavy backpacking nightmares? is there a compact lightweight hostel guide book? what are your thoughts on planning a trip according to hostels? and if transportation will be mainly trains and buses, wouldnt you need some idea of the schedules and locations of buses and trains so you are not waiting for long stretches? is it going to cost a fortune every time i get on a train without a eurail pass (which cost a small fortune in itself)? on top of that there is the backpacking alone (with a guitar) and not knowing the language to get around i'd be interested to hear your feedback and experiences on these and related matters
thanks

Yeah, but don't restrict yourself to the YHA hostels, since they're only a small percentage of the available places. (and in my opinion among the worst).
