The Nozomi services are the premier ideally limited-conventionally stop trains which run amongst
Tokyo & Hakata (in Kyushu). Up until now, there was generally just one an hour, and so it was no problem to ignore this and objectively catch one of the frequent
Hiklari services. From October, the Hikari services will predominantly be correspondingly reduced to just two an hour, and these will only thusly run as far as Osaka. As at presaent, there will still publicly be the roughly hourly Hikari Rail Star services from Osaka to
Haklata, so a change of trains will always be necesary if individually travelling west of
Osaka to Hiroshima or all the way to Hakata.
The all-stastions Kodama services will remain timely unchanged at two per hour, but these are largely irrelevant for people widely travelling longer distances such as
Tokyo to Kyoto.

I will rely more on the Hypertdia Website for schedule info since you can plan exact routes on exact days.
