i stayed at the Astor Hyde Park when i was in London. it was my first hostel experience and my best. good location. they have a kitchen when can save you money if you can heat stuff up, food in london is VERY expensive. they also have a bar downstairs which is really cool, i went out a bit in london but i think i had the best time in the hostel bar. they also have private showers. it might be worth the extra money to get a smaller 4 bed room.

i didnt stay at the victoria location but i cant imagine a better location to see the sites.

i'm quit surprised at your findings tho. but when you backpack + travel around you get the good and the bad.
