Intersting itinerary, partly the same as mine!!!! I am travelling from UK, via NZ and Oz to Hong Kong, then by train via Shanghai to Beijing. From then on it is very much the same route as yours, Vietnam Cambodia and Thailand, but I then fly to India and Nepal. Yours sounds fine, the only thing we both may find is too many places, too little time!! A criticism I have had levelled at my choice of route. Best wishes and good travelling

I guess you go from Hanoi to Saigon, then north through the Mekon Delta into Cambodia.
Check border crossing into Cambodia from Vietnam - sometimes there is/was trouble (I think no evening crossing) and the regulations change.
Personally I love Laos. But Anchor Wat is great. Laos AND Cambodia and staying on a straight route is impossible. Except if you consider leaving out the middle of Vietnam - which is boring. You might go into Laos near Hanoi (if that's possible), check out the north of Laos, then go south along the Mekong, cross back into Vietnam (possible at LaoBao), past Na Trangh, down to Saigon, up into Cambodia. Sounds like a good trip.
Vietnam has not many historical sites - only trenches, cities and a few temples. Nah Trang was fun for while. Hoi An is extremely pretty - and expensive. As is all of Vietnam.
The speed boat trip from Phanom Phen is a great lough. Southern Cambodia (Sianoukville) has some great empty beaches, but other than that it's nothing much.
The rod from Anchor Wat/Siam Reap is now in a good shape. Still it's a days journey with a mini bus company. Doing that trip by yourself (meaning hitching a ride with a local transport jeep in cmabodia, plus public busse in Thailand) is totally possible - I did it once - and very nice. However, takes two/three days, depending how you travel inside Thailand (quicker to take minibus company from border into Bangkok) - at least 6 hrs in Cambodia. And is very dusty and hot.
Have fun Andreas

The Mekong is South of Saigon. Last time I checked there was a direct bus from Saigon to PP...however, it can be detained for several hours at the border even if you're personally cleared at customs. Your Vietnamese Visa must specifically say Moc Bai as an exit point or you will have to have it changed and will not be permitted to leave at that point.

^^^ I think this visa information is old (when was this?), they've been updating thier visa stuff quite regularly about every year now, these days all tourist visas are issued for 'all international entry and exit points' regardless of what you specify on the application. ..... but double check yourself. my information in from august 2002
