Hi,

I am looking for a good travel backpack, mainly for travel in Europe (ie: not for camping or mountaineering). Can anyone in this group recommend some backpack models or direct me to a source of information that discusses this topic?

Depends. How long are you going and how heavy do you travel? In general, I like Eureka! and Lowe packs. Above all, buy quality, not the el-cheapos. Nothing worse than having your worldly possessions splooked across a bus floor or a strap give way five days into a four month trip.

Take a couple extra clips. They never last and are dirt cheap.

Go to the REI website. They have a great selection of packs as well as tips on which to buy to suit your purpose.....Howard

Interesting, my dirt cheap backpack, is now 7 years old has gone lots of places with me, it's reasonably comfortable for up to 5 miles, it's got soaking wet, it's been banged about with outrageously someone once took it away at JNB, but then came back when they realised it wasn't there's... all the clips have lasted. Not sure I'd bother with an expensive one - my dayback though, much more important, and I'd pay for that.
