Need some advice in europe tour~

Hi all I am currently studying in newcastle, UK. I planned to have an europe tour with my gf during Summer holidays. I am not sure how am i going to start. Planning to use around few weeks time to explorer the major interesting city in Europe e.g Rome, Venice, Paris, Milan, Barcelona etc. We did asked for details in travel agents, but seem they have fix destination for us. It's not flexible as we though. Further more, the package is quite expensive. So, we plan to have everything set up by ourself using net. e.g www.ryanair.com , www.easyjet.com ( pls tell me if there are others links ) should i travel by air or train? budget probably under 1000 pounds, may vary. Please advice where possible including accomodation ( for sure i didn't expect 3 stars nor 5 stars hotel... ) Hope to have more links for info. Thanks in advance. We would definitely appreciate ur help. ^_^

P/s: I read another thread ' Travelling Europe Solo', since there aren't much problem for american. How about Asian? I am chinese will there any safety problem?

well, if you want to use this rail passes, don't book in advande, since you are flexibel on how long you stay. just get yourself hostel member card, a sleeping bag and maybe a tent. if you are alone there won't be any problems to find a place to sleep.

by the way, if you buy a hostel member card...do it in eastern europe....they are much cheaper there
