THIS IS A WARNING

My girlfriend and I travelled to Cape Town and had a romantic vision of cruising round the Cape and through the winelands in a 1970s Beetle hired from 'Best' Boland Motors. If you have the same vision, forget it!

We had a nightmare with them: they are the most unreliable company we came across in Africa (and that is saying something). During the course of the month, we broke down no less than 4 times and had 3 different cars. This, you may say, we should have expected. But these were major breakdowns: exhaust falling off, starter motor blowing up, battery dying etc...To their credit, their repair man always appeared on time but each time, the boss promised us their 'best car'.
Everytime, we were disappointed.

When we asked for our money back, they refused, and we ended up leaving the Beetle in Cape Town and hired a new Ford Fiesta from
Europcar.

To cap things off, when you hire the vehicle, Best Boland asked for a
2000 Rand deposit. This they promise to return within 8 weeks if you have no fines. It is now over 14 weeks since we returned the car and there is no sign of the deposit despite us having no fines!

So, if you want a hassle free trip to Cape Town, AVOID BEST BOLAND
BEETLES!

I have been contacted by the relevant authorities and here follows there response.

Dear Mr Greeff
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. I discussed the situation with Ms Tollie Dreyer, Tygerberg Tourism. Best Beetles is a member of their bureau. They have received complaints in the past and is now in the process of cancelling their membership and blacklisting the company. They will also inform all the local tourism bureaux of this company's conduct.

Hallo Dive 777,

I have notified the relavant authorities in Cape Town and forwarded them you note. I hope that something will come of it as this is very bad for the
Western Cape as a whole. Greetings

Thank you very much Koos. Overall we had such an amazing time in the
Cape but this did leave us with a bad taste in our mouths. These guys don't deserve to be in business. I wonder if anyone else has had any similar experiences?
