Depends on how you want to live.
You can have a donut for breakfast ($0.65), eat noodles or fried dumplings in Chinatown for lunch ($1), and have a couple hot dogs for dinner at Gray's Papaya ($1.50), getting around on foot the whole time, having spent $3.15 for the day.
Or you can spend $1000.

You can buy an American breakfast in a diner for under $5, or coffee and a bagel for $1 to $1.50. Lunch? Up to you. Say a sandwich at $5 to $6 large enough to hold you for awhile - New York sandwiches tend to be big. Hotdogs from a cart on the street for $1. Supermarkets have hot food to take out, very cheap. Then I suggest you do a google search on New York City museums and tourist attractions and look at the prices. I am not sure of all the prices. You can pay what you wish at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Natural History Museum and the Booklyn Museum. The other art museums are give or take about $10 with reduced prices for students with ID and seniors.
