Hi Everybody,

am changing planes at Denpasar in February (enroute to Bangkok), and will be 'stuck' there for about 24 hours - just looking for recommendations on where to stay, etc. Not looking for anything too exciting (unless it's close to the airport) I guess just someplace quiet with low-stress transport, maybe a beach, a cafe or two, not too many touts or tourists ... Oh yeah, cheap would be good too

Jimbaren Bay is very close to the airport, and the way things are in Bali at the moment, I would just be asking a taxi driver at the airport to take you to a small hotel down there. There is also a wonderful experiance called the Fish markets at Jimbaren Bay,- in the sand are about 100 Seafood bbq stalls, which sell fantastic fresh seafood meals. You can watch the sun go down over the water, and have Balinese minstrels wandering along the sand singing. We always go to a stall called 'Sharkeys' which is alittle towards the airport end. Have fun, Michelle

Try one of the hotels in Poppies Lane. We stay at Aneka which has a back door onto Poppies Lane and front drive onto Jalan Pantai (beach road). Have dinner in TJs (Poppies Lane) if you like Mexican Food, or Poppies if you want Indonesian

With just that time I'd head straight for Jimbaran - great spot with all you mentioned - research it on the search-engines

Thanks y'all. My Lonely Planet Indonesia (1998) describes Jimbaran as being very short on budget accomodations - has that changed in the last few years? To be more specific on price, I would like something maybe US $6-15 for the night. Dormitory would be fine. BTW, scheduled arrival time is 2015.

What is the atmosphere in Kuta in light of the recent bombing?

I'm not aware of any dormitory accommodation on Bali. Backpacker prices are $2 or so for a private room.
