Flying from Vancouver toBrisbane in March 2004 with Cathay pacific and have to overnight in Hong Kong on the return. Have done a websearch for hotels in Hong Kong but since I have never been there, I don't know where they are from the airport. From what I can figure out - everything is quite a ways from the airport but I was hoping someone on this board might have a suggestion.

We will arrive in Hong Kong at 8:00PM and fly out at 1 the next day - so all we are looking for is a place to lay our heads down.

Just found this on the web - http://www.plaza-asia.com/airport_lounge/ airport_hk01.htm Apparently you can sleep right at the airport. Will check it out on the way through.

What's your budget like? My Lonely Planet guide calls $1000HK 'midrange'.
This is about $170/night. New Cathay (on Causeway Bay) is 'cheesy but cheap' for HK$740. You might want to get a copy of the Lonely Planet guide book.

I personally wouldn't book anything until I was able to check it out.
Which, I believe you can do on your way to Australia. Don't you have to change planes at HK on the way to Australia?

We're doing a similar route, (Cathay Pacific, flying to Sydney, return from Perth, where we will overnight in HK). We're going to check the HK situation from the HK International Airport tourist bureau, (while waiting for the Sydney connection) for future accomodations on the way back.

Thanks Richard and Runge;

Someone emailed me directly saying that the YMCA Salisbury is a great overnight stay http://www.holidaycity.com/ymcahk/index.htm or the The
Kimberly Hotel Hong Kong (no website given) . I love the suggestion of making the booking on the way down under - hopefully we can do that in the 3 hours between arrival and departure.
