I am searching on raileurope and I am noticing I see almost no schedules for overnight trains. I am looking at Amsterdam-Berlin, to name a few of the legs, and would rather save a night in a hotel and get a couchette rather than lose a full day to travel and then have to find a hotel. That is how I have always done it before but there wasn't as much high speed service then. The Ams-Berlin leg is 7 hours, which I would think would be long enough for a night service.

Have night trains been phased out or is it just that you can't book them on the net? I see options for booking a couchette but all the times show daytime departures. Is there anyway to find the night trains?

thanks

It has been my experience (99% in Italy) that the departure time determines wether it is a 'night train', and that most night trains (with minimum trip durations) have couchettes available. In Italy, you must make reservations for a couchette, and it cannot be done on-line, or too far in advance, (with the trenitalia website - I have never found it anywhere else either). You may have some luck with on-line travel agents/booking agents.
