Rhodes - starting out

Me & the missus are first timers to backpacking, but as bikers for many years are used to roughing it. Were going to go round the Greek Islands, but we are worried we arrive late in the evening in Rhodes, and cant fix up a roof over our heads for the first night. Found various tourist websites, but noone will reply to a booking enquiry. Just shows a webpage is only good if its updated and emails checked. Any suggestions please?
