I'm looking for recommendations for companies that provide self-guided, inn-to-inn walking/hiking tours.

I travel a fair amount for work and frequently end up with a week or less that I can afford to devote to vacation/holiday. I love to walk. The combination makes me really love a service like Alternative Travel Group (ATG)- Oxford* provides: they put together iteneraries along scenic routes (mainly in Italy and France), provide a detailed set of route instructions and maps, book hotels along the way, provide a support person primarily to move luggage from hotel to hotel while I walk but also to bail me out if I sprain an ankle or some such, but then let me walk those itineraries at my own pace, unescorted.

The only problem with ATG is that their offerings are limited to about 10-12 locations and only in a few European countries. I'd love to have the same kind of travel opportunity in many more locations worldwide. I know there is much more available in the form of escorted, group tours, but I really love the self-paced, self-guided trips.

Any recommendations? I've recently come across Sherpa Expeditions, also in the UK, but I have not yet used them. They seem to have a larger selection of self-guided trips but without the local support that ATG has. Anyone have any experience with them?
