I'm planning a backpacking trip this year. I'm going to go to the US, and then parts of Central America, hopefully also including Cuba. If I went to Cuba, would I be allowed back into the US with a Cuban stamp in my pasport?
I understand there are (or were) some problems in this area...

I'm assuming you're not traveling on a US passport - if so, you'll have no dramas in formal terms. HOWEVER, Cuba is one of the 'nasty twenty' countries whose visiting will get you closer scrutiny at INS (I've had this personally happen to me - I'm Canadian - long before the post 9/11/01 New World Order).
Cuban authorities will not stamp your passport if you ask them not to, as of last time I checked (a few years back).
