I am totally new to hiking, it seems that I need to carry camping gear when hiking in Grand Canyon. Please recommend a nice cheap backpack.

try looking at sierratradingpost.com... they have sale packs that are good priced- they're usually a year or two old, but are new. If you're doing a 3-4 day trip 3000 cu in should get you by just fine, provided you leave the curling iron at home :o)
