This is naturally more a problem for those who backpack in Europe or the US then to those of us who are out there in East Asia but it happens a lot that one finds himself in a strange situation. You are in a city or a village that is practically closed.
You might want to arrange in advance for food and drinks or make reservation for a more expensive place, traveling might become a problem especially with public transportation.
Touring around with friends can be a nice option if you’re not traveling alone. Plan to rest during the day, or book activities in advance if there is something that you want to do.
There are always some open restaurants if you know where to look, but make sure you know the local habits. For Example in Paris the Monday after Easter is a national holiday and everything is closed so If you planned to do things that day, think again.
If you know in advance how things are, you can have a really nice time as the atmosphere in the cities is very unique and you can certainly enjoy.
